What You'll Need:
A Pair of Flag Wings is required to get started. Medium size is recommended (I use medium from The Bamboo Closet in all demonstrations, and I am 5'4").
You can purchase your own pair from The Bamboo Closet on Etsy, The State of Flow PROPShop, or other silk flow arts prop makers.
You will want to wear comfortable clothing that allows full range of motion. Whatever feels good for your body is perfect!
You will need space to move and practice–you will need tall enough ceilings to allow for full range of motion with the flags in your hands.
A mirror is very helpful for receiving immediate visual feedback of your movement, allowing for accurate adjustments, but is not essential.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this course suitable for complete beginners?
A: Absolutely! I designed this course to start from the very first steps, assuming no prior experience with flag wings.
Q: How is this different from silk fan dance?
A: While both props use silk and share some overlapping techniques, flag wings have a distinct structure and movement style. Many of the flag grip moves from fan dance translate well, but this prop emphasizes weaving patterns and continuous pathways, which can present a steeper learning curve. With patience and practice, you’ll develop a strong foundation and discover new dimensions of expression in your flow.
Q: What size flags should I get?
A: For most people, medium wings from The Bamboo Closet or regular size from the PROPShOP work great. I'm 5'4" and use medium wings from The Bamboo Closet in all the tutorial videos. Larger wings have more fabric, which looks stunning but can be more challenging with some of the intricate techniques.
Q: How much time should I commit to practice?
A: Even 15-30 minutes a few times a week will lead to noticeable progress. The course is designed to fit into your schedule and allow self-paced learning. But, of course, the more time you carve out for your practice, the quicker you'll progress.
Q: Will I have lifetime access?
A: Yes! Your purchase includes unlimited access to all course materials. Learn at your own pace and revisit any section whenever you need a refresher.
Q: I've never done any flow arts before. Can I still learn this?
A: Absolutely! While having some movement experience is helpful, this course is designed to make learning intuitive and accessible, no matter your background.
Q: Where can I purchase a set of Flag Wings?
A: The wings I dance with are made by @thebamboocloset. You can follow her Instagram and Etsy pages for product drop announcements. State of Flow PROPShOP is another maker who makes flag wings as well.
